Daniel Ricciardo is confident his former McLaren teammate Lando Norris could be one of the best drivers on the grid if he joins a better team.
Ricciardo’s statement follows Norris’ strong performances in the last two weekends. Lando Norris finished P2 at the British Grand Prix, achieving his best ever F1 finish.
Talking to Crash.netRicciardo praised Norris and stated that the Briton always squeezed the most out of the car he was put in.
“There’s no doubt that Lando is very good. I think he’s one of those things where he was definitely, at least what I felt the car was capable of, he was always getting the most out of him. Something I’ve obviously struggled to do at McLaren,” he said. Ricardo.
Daniel Ricciardo added that the Briton has proven himself with his performance in Formula 1, and he would obviously be very fast if he was racing for a top team.
“If he goes to a top team, he should translate that and get back up to car level. I’m sure he’ll be quick in a top team. I have no doubt about that. I think he’s proven himself,” he added.
Speaking of Norris’ recent performances, Daniel Ricciardo has tried to compare his former teammate with defending champion Max Verstappen. The latter is easily leading the championship this year, having won six races in a row so far. Norris had a great start during the British Grand Prix, stealing the lead from the Dutchman for a few laps before Red Bull overtook McLaren with his blistering pace in the race.
Daniel Ricciardo felt it was difficult to compare the two drivers due to their different mechanics.
“Comparing him to Max, it’s tough because Lando put on some amazing quali courses? Sure. Was it as good as everyone else on the grid? Maybe. But Max obviously did too,” Ricciardo told Crash.net.
However, given the fact that Norris was able to battle Verstappen in a McLaren, even if only for a few laps, it is clear to Ricciardo that Norris is the contender.
“I think there were days when he obviously looked good. But it’s hard to draw such a comparison. But I think he’s very, very good.”
