Delhi schools bordering the Yamuna River have been ordered to remain closed to all schools, due to a flood-like situation in the area. The Department of Education (DoE) announced on Sunday that all private and public schools must separate offline classrooms.
This decision was made as the schools are being used as flood relief camps in the city.
“Since it is likely that the flood relief camps will continue to operate in schools in the areas bordering the Yamuna River, all schools (both public and private) in the DOE-affected areas – Eastern, North-Eastern, North-West, Northern, Central and South-East – will remain closed to students on the 17th. and July 18,” the education ministry said in a bulletin.
However, school authorities have been instructed to arrange online classes in the meantime, to ensure that the academic growth of students is not harmed.
All other schools in the remaining parts of Delhi – North West-B, West-A, West-B, South, South West-A, South West-B and New Delhi – can resume offline classes, if they see fit. That’s appropriate.
“Heads of schools in these seven regions are free to run (classes) in physical mode or blended mode (either offline or online) as per the convenience of their students. Heads of these schools should inform parents about their decision ahead of time,” it reads. in generalization.
