Seth Rollins recently credited the WWE Hall of Famer with being the reason he entered the wrestling ring.
Shawn Michaels is widely considered one of the best wrestlers of all time. He was known to please the crowd as soon as he entered the arena. Michaels is also considered a pioneer, as he became one of the first “junior” wrestlers to reach the top of the mountain in WWE.
He was able to reach the top of the company at a time when 6-foot-7 monsters were dominating the industry. Therefore, Michaels helped inspire the next generation of wrestlers, including current World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
Rollins recently defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Braun Breaker at NXT Gold Rush. After his victory, Rollins embraced Shawn Michaels, and the moment was captured on camera.
talking on out of character podcast, Rollins described what that moment meant to him and how Michaels inspired him to become a wrestler.
“It’s really the reason I feel like I can do what I do,” Rollins began. “I would never have been Hulk Hogan, or the Ultimate Warrior, or André the Giant, the people I grew up watching were all giants. Sean and Brett were the first two people I was like, ‘Oh, I think I can do that. ‘” Maybe if I was lucky enough to reach 6 feet tall I might be able to do it. “
He completed:
“I don’t have to be a 300-pound giant or 6-foot-7 or whatever. To be able to share that experience with Sean, to be able to get any amount of respect from him — for what I can do, as a personality and an artist — means the world to me.” I’m really at a loss for words to describe what that (cuddle with Sean) meant to me. It was something so special, I’m so humbled that I have any respect from The Heartbreak Kid.” (Erosion company wrestling)
Seth Rollins on how Shawn Michaels has influenced the current generation of WWE Superstars
During the same interview, Seth Rollins talked about the conversations he had with Shawn Michaels. The Visionary shared his belief that HBK does not realize the level of influence it has had on the current generation of stars.
“I don’t think Shawn realizes the impact he’s had on everyone,” Rollins emphasized. “There’s a whole generation of people, my age, who wouldn’t do this if not for him. We all model our style on Shawn and Bret (Hart) and Eddie (Guerrero). He really thinks he’s fully aware of that, and how much he’s affected this generation.” (Erosion company wrestling)
It’s clear that Shawn Michaels has had a massive influence on today’s superstars, and it’s only fitting that someone like Seth Rollins is paving the way for the next generation.
