Australian opening batsman Usman Khawaja has slammed the hostile attitude of England fans in the ongoing 2023 Ashes series so far. Khawaja was caught in the eye of the storm during the Second Test at Lord’s after he was involved in a verbal altercation with a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in the long room during the lunch break on the fifth day.

The England-Australia rivalry flared into a very competitive and still holding series at 2-1 in Australia’s favour, with two matches to play. The likes of Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey have been targets for the infamous Leeds crowd in the aftermath of the Lord’s debacle.

Khawaja admitted that the conditions are so harsh that he will not bring his children in until they are exposed to it.

“I mean, she’s rough. If you talk about it with the English players, they say we’re just as rough when (they go to Australia). I don’t get along with it either way. I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. I Personally, if I was coming to cricket and watching cricket, I wouldn’t want my kids to be near that.”

Khawaja added that Travis Head stopped a lot of abuse from the crowd, and continued:

“If I saw that I would 100 per cent complain or I’d just leave. I guess some things can be pretty poor. In Edgbaston they’d call Travis Head a cu…you know what. I can’t believe you can actually say that in public.” Anywhere “.

There have been incidents of disorderly conduct by crowds in Australia as well, but these cases have been resolved either through a complaint by players in the stadium or members of the public to the security staff.

The provision of letting security know of any kind of misdiscipline in a crowd through a simplified system of text messages and uniforms is not yet established in England. If the behavior crosses the line, the security personnel will often kick the member out of the venue.

“I’ve been doing it my whole life, it doesn’t bother me” – Usman Khawaja

The Marylebone Cricket Club has suspended three members who were involved in the altercation with Usman Khawaja during the Lord’s Test. The organization also issued an apology to the Australian team after the conclusion of the Test.

Noting that events often break out when spectators and players are within range of each other, Khawaja said:

“MCCs are everywhere. I trust them to do the right thing. I know watching a lot of sports and beloved sports happen all over the world. You watch the NBA, it happens there.”

He completed:

“Especially when the crowd gets real close to you, which they can do in cricket. It is what it is, I don’t agree with it. I’ve been doing it all my life, it doesn’t bother me. And if it does, I’ll tell them.”

The fourth Ashes Test is scheduled to begin on July 19 at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester.
