It was a joint operation of Army and Jammu Kashmir Police carried out on the night of the intervention from 16 to 17 July in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, he said, adding that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.

Security forces have killed two terrorists and thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, a defense ministry spokesman said on Monday.

He said that while the body of one terrorist was recovered from the site, the second extremist fell into the Poonch River after being shot.

It was a joint operation of the Army and Jammu Kashmir Police carried out on the night of the intervention from 16 to 17 July in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, he said, adding that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.

The spokesman said the operation began after the standby forces noticed suspicious movement across the Line of Control towards the Indian side near the Poonch River.

He pointed out that the army, police and police personnel have put in place an anti-infiltration situation at multiple levels to prevent any terrorist from entering or escaping.

An early hour shootout began, wounding the terrorists. “One of the terrorists fell on the spot, while the other terrorist was seen falling into the Poonch River,” he added.

The spokesman said that “war-like” major magazines were found including an AK-74 rifle with magazine, 11 rounds and other feeding materials.

The army also published thermal images showing the infiltration attempt.

A spokesman said that the security forces are still on alert on the Line of Control and are fully prepared to thwart such attempts in the future as well.

It has seen an increase in sneak bids this year in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.

On 11 July, one terrorist was killed when the army forces thwarted an infiltration operation in Nowshera district along the Line of Control in Rajouri district.

An Indian Army soldier was wounded in an exchange of fire with terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control in Poonch district on June 24.

Eight days earlier, an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control at Poonch had been thwarted and a large shipment of arms and ammunition seized on 16 June.

Two terrorists were killed when an infiltration attempt was thwarted in the Mashael area along the Line of Control on June 14th.

Three terrorists were killed when an infiltration attempt was thwarted in Poonch on 31 May. On May 20, one terrorist was killed in Poonch when the military thwarted an infiltration attempt.
