As the opposition is doing all it can to unite against the BJP-led NDA, Congress leaders from across Uttar Pradesh, especially the veterans, have strongly advocated for them to go it alone into the state in the Lok Sabha elections.

The motion was introduced unanimously during a meeting held at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Monday to receive remarks from ex-party officials for the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Partisan sources said about 250 leaders, including former district heads and former state employees, attended the meeting, which was chaired by State Party Chairman Prejlal Khabri. They said former head of state Nirmal Khatri was also present.

“Many proposals were made, but the majority agreed to run in the LS elections without any alliance, especially in the UP,” said a senior party leader.

He added, “Some even remember how the alliance talks in 2009 with the then Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, who did not agree to give a decent number of seats to the Congress, did not materialize. They were of the opinion that when the party succeeded in regaining its lost gains after a long time when it competed on his own “.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Congress won the most seats (21 out of 80) from UP.
