It also banned the production/use of ear pads with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, and polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration.

The Government of Nagaland has banned Single Use Plastics (SUP) in the state to eliminate serious environmental and environmental challenges posed by the rampant use of plastics.

This is in compliance with the directives of the Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate and subsequent directives from the Nagaland Urban Development Department (UDD) as per the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

The Defense Department said Saturday that the manufacture, import, storage, distribution, sale and use of bags made of metallic, virgin or recycled plastic, regardless of their thickness in microns, is prohibited.

It also banned the manufacture, import, stockpiling, distribution, sale and use of earphones with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks and polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration.

Dishes, cups, mugs, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straws, trays, wrapping or packaging films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packages, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 microns, and stirrers are also banned.

All individuals, institutions, businesses, educational institutions, offices, shops, hotels, restaurants, religious institutions or religious institutions, central and state government departments, agencies, committees, standard support units and missions, including armies/paramilitary forces, are directed to Military, to abide by the ban on SUP.

Warning that any breach will be subject to penalties, the Civil Defense Department said that inspections will be conducted at regular intervals, and defaulters will be severely punished for this breach.
