Former Indian legendary batsman and current coach Rahul Dravid and all his coaching staff are likely to rest for the upcoming T20I series to be played in Ireland from August 18-23.

According to reports from Cricbuzz, the coaching staff will be given a break after the ongoing tour of the West Indies. This would give them enough time to reflect and rejuvenate before the crucial stage for the Indian team with the all-important Asia Cup and World Cup to follow.

Once again, National Cricket Academy (NCA) President and former legend VVS Laxman will be the coach in Rahul Dravid’s absence. Laxman and his coaching staff were part of India’s previous tour to Ireland where they played a couple of T20Is last year.

The batting coach for the tour could be one between Sitanshu Kotak and Hrishikesh Kannekar, and Troy Kohli and Saraj Bahutul could be contenders for the role of bowling coach.

It is unlikely that KL Rahul will return to India for the Asian Cup

Cricbuzz also reports that batsman KL Rahul won’t make his international return even at the Asia Cup later this year. This is a huge blow for the Men in Blue as he is a crucial cog in their ODI format middle order, and his wicket-keeping gives the team much-needed balance.

Rahul reportedly did not complete his rehabilitation and also did not start hitting the net, further delaying his potential return. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return to the squad for the Ireland T20Is and that would be a huge boost for the Men in Blue in the context of the World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer is another middle-order batsman who the hosts will be desperate to get back in shape in time for the World Cup.
