A woman and a girl, who went to take a bath in the East Nayar river on Monday, were swept away in its strong current in Puri district of Uttarakhand.

Sandeep Kumar, a Satbuli sub-collector, said that at around 6 am, the two left their homes to perform the ‘Jalabhishek’ on Shivling at the Dangleshwar Mahadev temple. It is located on Satpuli-Dudharkhal highway, 1 km from here.

He said before going to the temple, they both entered the East Nayar river to take a bath but after slipping into the deep water they were swept away by the strong current.

As soon as the news of the accident was received, the staff of the Revenue Department, the Police Department and the local residents arrived at the scene.

Four of the local young swimmers who were there jumped into the river to look for them, but found their dead bodies near the main bridge of Satbuli, located a kilometer and a half from the place.

The deceased has been identified as Ruby aka Saroj Rawat (24), a resident of Udalsain village in Satpoli and Aditi alias Soni (15), a resident of Chaulusain village in Dwarikhal district.

Aditi came to her maternal grandfather’s home at Odalsain.de
