Brijesh Bhatt, the district disaster management officer, said the water level of River Ganga along with Alaknanda has risen due to the release of water from the GVK Dam project company in Srinagar.
A red alert has been sounded in Haridwar in Uttarakhand after Ganga ricer reached warning level amidst heavy rains, damaging one of the gates of Bhimgoda Barrage.
The water level of the Ganga River in Haridwar rose above the warning level of 293 meters on Sunday after a sluice gate of the Pemguda Dam near Har ki Pauri Ghat was damaged, prompting authorities to issue a red alert and ask people downstream to remain vigil on the banks.
The district disaster management official Brijesh Bhatt said the water level of the Ganga River along with Alaknanda had increased due to the release of water from the GVK Dam Project Company in Srinagar.

Orange alert in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal floods: Amid monsoon chaos, IMD issues orange alert for next two days
Four districts of Himachal Pradesh are on orange alert of rain for the day. Himachal Pradesh received record monsoon rains, resulting in massive waterlogging, caverns on the roads, collapsed houses and gridlocked traffic.
According to data from the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority, 117 people have lost their lives in this monsoon season since its start on June 24. So far, 12 people are missing and 121 people have been injured, according to the data.
The state witnessed 53 landslide incidents in the state, along with 41 flash flood incidents, according to the data.
In the wake of heavy rains and havoc in Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for rain in four states of Himachal Pradesh.
IMD is tweeting that Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive heavy to very heavy showers from July 16-17.
