Nancy Walton Laurie, the billionaire Wal-Mart heiress, appears to be the climate activists’ latest target. Lori’s $300 million luxury yacht, the Kaos, in Ibiza, was defaced with spray paint Sunday morning by activists from Futuro Vegetal, who shared a video of two of their members vandalizing the yacht on social media.

The two people in the video used black and red paint to smear the white exterior of the yacht. The group also uploaded photos of the two members with the yacht in the background, while holding up signs that read:

“You consume = others suffer.”

Speaking of the acts of vandalism, Futuro Vegetal Group said in a statement that the only reason why people continue to maintain an economic system that leads them to ecological and social collapse is to preserve the privileges enjoyed by the small elite class. The group added that the rich live off making others suffer.

According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the activists were arrested Sunday morning at the docks. Sources told Spanish news outlets that Nancy Walton Laurie’s luxury yacht was scheduled to leave Ibiza on that very day, namely July 16.

Netizens mocked climate activists for vandalizing a billionaire’s superyacht

The Internet did not support the act of vandalism by climate protesters on Nancy Walton Lurie’s luxury yacht. Many commented that the activists themselves polluted the ocean waters by using oil paint on the yacht.

Some have suggested that activists’ homes and vehicles they may own should also be vandalized to teach them a lesson about illegally damaging other people’s property.

Climate change protests in Ibiza

The vandalism of Nancy Walton Laurie’s luxury yacht occurred after activist organization Extinction Rebellion called on Ibiza to ban luxury yachts and private jets over emissions concerns.

They even arranged a campaign asking activists to specifically target such yachts and planes in Ibiza. Activists sprayed a private jet at Ibiza airport in a similar manner last week.

The Futuro Figural Group stated that Nancy Walton Laurie’s yacht was their specific target because she is among the richest women in the world.

The group took pride in joining the campaign in Ibiza claiming they were raising awareness of their cause. They even sell themselves as a direct action and civil disobedience group fighting climate change.
