Many Georgia Bulldogs fans are looking forward to the days of SEC Media and especially Kirby Smart’s appearances at events. Media Days is set to kick off Monday, July 17 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Smart will be accompanied by three players from Georgia, Kamari Lassiter, tight end Brock Bowers, and center Sedrick Van Pran.
From one look at Georgia’s entourage, one can easily tell what most Bulldogs fans are curious about at events. The conspicuous absence of the Georgia quarterback in the crowd reflects the only concern many Bulldogs supporters have.

For the past two seasons, Stetson Bennett IV has been the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. He was at the center of the Georgia team that won back-to-back national championships.
Heisman Trophy finalist was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams during this year’s NFL Draft and left Kirby Smart in search of a fresh start.
What are Kirby Smart’s options for starting quarterback in 2023?
Two candidates are competing for this spot. Carson Beck and Brooke Vandagriff.
It was expected by many fans that Kirby Smart would bring at least one of those two to Media Days. This would have been a resounding nod for who would be his anointed hero this season among them. Not bringing either might be described as an indication of the coach’s indecision, a situation most fans dread.
However, fans may have overreacted. Smart’s reason for leaving Beck and Vandagriff behind may not have anything to do with who starts at quarterback at Georgia this season. Media days are usually intense and attendance is subject to rigorous questioning by the press.
Not bringing any of them along might be a clever way to protect them from the merciless exposure of the media. It may also be his way of keeping fans and the media guessing about who will get the spot. Whatever his reasons, he would certainly answer the questions regarding this decision in the events.
Beck appears to be ahead of Vandagriff in the race for the starting spot as the starting quarterback at Georgia. Beck was the primary backup to Bennett last season and threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns. He also participated with the first team in most of the spring matches.
But Vandegrave shouldn’t be mistaken for being easygoing. He committed to Georgia as a four-star and ranked 34th overall in the class of 2021.
