Police detained more than a dozen naked protesters when they were marching toward the state legislature
A group of men staged a naked demonstration in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur on Tuesday to demand action against people who secured government jobs using forged caste certificates, officials said.
They said that the police detained more than a dozen naked protesters when they were marching toward the state legislature.
The four-day state assembly session began on Tuesday.
Young men belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes stripped naked and marched towards the gathering carrying banners with messages demanding action against government employees who used fake caste certificates to get jobs.
Prashant Agrawal, Chief Superintendent of Police, Raipur, told PTI that the protesters were detained near Amma Seoni Junction under Bandri Police Station area for organizing a demonstration in an obscene manner.
Speaking to reporters, one of the protestors said that the state government investigation committee had conducted an investigation into the cases of fake caste certificates and found that 267 government employees used fake SC/ST certificates, but no action has been taken against them so far.
Earlier, we went on hunger strike demanding action against them, but our demand remained unheard. Hence, we are now in the process of organizing a naked protest. We demand the arrest of holders of forged class certificates and the confiscation of the property they obtained by the authorities,” he warned of more fierce demonstrations if the demands were not met.
The protest stunned bystanders, who filmed videos of naked men walking and chanting slogans on the road and posted them on social media.
