Two teams were interested in DeAndre Hopkins’ services: the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. But apparently only one person wanted to make the effort to sign a star receiver.
Hopkins is now a member of the Titans after head coach Mike Vrable got the deal and will now potentially lead Tennessee’s receiving room.
But FS1’s Colin Coward blamed Patriots coach Bill Belichick for letting Hopkins slip through his fingers and join an AFC contender.

“It’s more of an indictment of New England,” Coward said in “The Herd”. So, DeAndre Hopkins didn’t pick Belichick, you know, with six or seven Super Bowl rings, he didn’t pick offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, he didn’t pick Mac Jones, a first-round pick who’s obviously the #1 quarterback.
Now, he picked Tennessee with a wonky offensive line, a dominating quarterback and you have no idea what the future is in the quarterback, yet Vrabel sold him at the i,t and that’s all it was. Free agency is the art of the sale. It’s a game a bit like college football inserted in professional football.
“Mike Vrabel is younger than Belichick, maybe a less solid ex-player, and he sold him.”

The Titans now have a star receiver to replace AJ Brown and have moved in to give quarterback Ryan Tannehill a formidable weapon. While Hopkins’ 717 yards from nine games last season doesn’t paint him in the best light, but given his average yards per game (79.9) and his total for the eight games he missed, Hopkins would have tallied 1,356 yards.
That would definitely work, and remember, some of that was without Kyler Murray, too.
This is the kind of receiver the Patriots and Belichick could have had if they wanted to move forward on a trade. Money may have been an important factor, but Mac Jones desperately needs a No. 1 receiver, and once again, he’s not going to have a receiver.
Tennessee will smile knowing it has an All-Pro receiver next season, which is exactly the thing the Patriots have been desperate to have…but apparently not so desperate.
