Police said that a piece of the road linking Nirath, Nankhiri and Bandadhar collapsed, plunging the vehicle into the creek.

Three persons were killed when their vehicle plunged into a stream after a section of road collapsed in Nankneri district here in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, police said.

In Kangra, 55 people, who were trapped in Gandhara and Mani districts after increasing water levels in Beas district, were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Kangra.

Regarding the accident, the police said that a section of the road linking Nirath, Nankheri and Bandadhar collapsed causing the vehicle to fall into the riverbed.

They added that three bodies were recovered by police, fire department employees and local residents. Other passengers have reported the accident.

The deceased were identified as Veer Singh (40 years old), Hammat Singh (28 years old) and Ratan (50 years old), all of whom hailed from Nankheri. Prime Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sokho expressed his sorrow over the incident.

In Indora sub-district in Kangra district, the rescue operations of 55 people, including children, lasted for nine hours, ending around 5 am on Tuesday.

They were stranded by the rising waters of the Beas River Monday night, Deputy Commissioner Nippon Jindal said.

Once the information about the trapped people reached the control room, a local rescue operation was launched and the front was reported, the official said.

Since the onset of the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, it has been drenched in rain and so far, 125 people have lost their lives in rain-related accidents and road accidents. The state incurred losses of Rs 4,691 crore, according to the Himachal Pradesh Emergency Response Centre. There are still as many as 682 dead ends.

The local meteorological office issued a yellow alert and predicted heavy rains in isolated places in the state for the next four days until July 22.
