The Ludhiana Special Fast Track Court on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old man to life in prison for raping an eight-year-old girl in 2020. The Additional Sessions Court Amarjeet Singh also ordered that the convict “shall be detained for the rest of his normal life.” for life or until his death” and that “he may not be released on at least parole until after he has served an effective 25 years in prison.”

The accused, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was living in Ludhiana when the accident happened. The FIR was recorded on the complaint of the victim’s parents, also UP natives, who said in their statement that they were selling vegetables on a cart near their rented room. They said their 8-year-old daughter went missing on October 1, 2020. While searching for her, they heard screams from the room of the accused, who also lives in the same area. When they entered, they saw that the accused was raping her and their daughter was bleeding profusely.

The prosecutor in the case, B.D. Gupta said 13 witnesses were questioned and DNA tests were conducted for the scientific investigation. He further said that the court convicted the accused under Sections 376-AB of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. “He has been sentenced to life in prison under both parts and will serve both sentences simultaneously. According to the order, he will not be eligible for parole until he has served 25 years in prison,” said Gupta.
