A 42-year-old man, who had returned from Canada some years ago, was hacked to death in Thakur Colony, near Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana, late Monday night.
Police identified the victim as Panendeep Singh Grewal, whose wife and children said they were in Canada.
According to the police, the accident took place when Baninderdeep and his family assistant Bala Singh were riding a motorbike and were on their way back to his home in Laltun Kalan village from his farm house in Thakur Colony.
Police said two attackers on the road, on a bicycle, broke into the pair. They then proceeded to attack the Banninder with their sharpened rifles before fleeing the post. After the accused escaped, Bala Singh raised the alarm and with the help of some locals rushed Baninderdeep to the DMCH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival after midnight.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO of Sadar Police Station, said Baninderdeep has been booked into three FIRs related to property disputes. At first glance, it is suspected that it is a case of old and personal enmity. We’re scanning CCTV footage in the area for clues about the attackers.
A homicide information report has been registered against unknown assailants at Sadar Police Station.
