Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani continues to defy faith by doing what he does best – breaking records and reaching century-old milestones.
Given his two-way prowess, comparisons to baseball icon Babe Ruth have been plentiful. Although Ruth only did double duty for two seasons, his level of excellence in both roles was not seen until Otani was crowned in the major leagues in 2017.
Since then there has been no looking back. Now, we’re in a situation where it’s hard to imagine a baseball season without Ohtani accomplishing a feat of Ruth.

According to a stat shared by MLB insider Hector Gomez, Ohtani and Ruth share identical starts in their major league careers.
On Sunday, Otani played in his 674th career game against the Houston Astros, and hit his 160th career home run, one more than Ruth in the same number of games. However, it is getting better.
Ohtani and Ruth also have nearly identical winning records in their first 455 rounds with Ohtani being 35-18, while The Babe was 35-19.
Although it doesn’t really make sense to compare players from two completely different eras, MLB fans on Twitter can’t help themselves. With eerily similar stats, the Sohei Ohtani vs. Babe Ruth debate rages on.
Babe Ruth will always have his place in baseball history, as will Shuhei Ohtani when he retires from the sport. The Los Angeles Angels superstar is the definition of a “once in a lifetime,” because what he’s accomplished at the age of 29 is truly unprecedented.

Despite Shohei Ohtani’s undeniable dominance, there is growing doubt regarding his future with the Angels. Team owner Arte Moreno has been unsuccessful in securing a long-term deal with the Japanese phenom. Adding to the dilemma is the Angels’ inability to get anywhere near the playoffs since Ohtani’s arrival in 2018, which could eventually lead to the No. 17 leaving the team.
Showtime’s destination remains a mystery, with speculation that the Angels should consider trading him before the season is over. By doing so, the Angels will at least be able to salvage some value on a contract that holds no value to them once October rolls around.
