The flood occurred during the morning rush hour, between 10 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas across the city.
Surat, the bustling center of textiles and diamond polishing, and the second largest city in Gujarat, experienced unprecedented heavy rains on Tuesday. In just a couple of hours, the city was drenched with 75mm of torrential rain as heavy rain swept most parts of the city.
The flood occurred during the morning rush hour, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon on Tuesday, causing flooding in low-lying areas across the city. Regions such as the deserts of Darwaja, Adhna, Katargam and Bandisara were particularly affected as torrents of rain inundated these areas within hours.
Commuting has become arduous due to waterlogging, which has posed challenges for residents in different parts of the city.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast bulletin stating that “Heavy rains are very likely in isolated places in Banaskantha, Mehsana, Saparkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Chota Udaipur, Navsari, Valsad, Union Territory Daman, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amrili, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath among others.” over the next seven days.”
In addition, the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in isolated places, with very heavy rains expected in Surat, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts within the South Gujarat region.
