A 25-year-old man fell into a stream in Malad (East) on the western outskirts of Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon and has been missing since.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said Chandan Dilip Saha fell into a drain around 5.16pm and may have been dragged into the Poisar River by the strong currents.
The place where the accident occurred is a forested area and there is a dam nearby. “So it could have been drawn into the deeper waters by the strong tidal currents,” said Kiran Digavkar, assistant commissioner of the municipality.
Officials said a search and rescue operation by the Mumbai Fire Brigade was halted at 8.15pm due to bad weather and poor visibility.
