Danielle Kelly dreamed of a chance to get a taste of ONE Gold, and her ambition could be fulfilled at ONE Fight Night 14.
The Silver Fox BJJ representative takes on a familiar name, Jessa Khan, at the inaugural show of the world title wrestling ONE atomweight organization on Friday, September 29, in a match that has all the ingredients to be an instant classic.
Khan and Kelly collided in February 2021 in Austin, Texas, with the former coming out on top by decision after a back-and-forth war.
The Cambodian-American actress, who made her BJJ black belt debut that evening, attacked the Philadelphia native with a variety of requests—arm straps, knee straps, triangle chokes—from her locked guard against the hunting guru.
None of that worked as Danielle Kelly kept her cool and found ways to work around attempts to finish the match. However, Khan’s work from below, as the clock ticked, ultimately proved to be the decisive factor that led her to an important victory.
But a lot has changed since that meeting.
Danielle struck a deal with ONE Championship a year later, and the women’s submission competition presented by the Singapore-based organization began wrestling against Japanese martial arts icon Mai Yamaguchi at ONE X in March of last year.
After that, the 27-year-old continued to impress and racked up victories over Russian charmer Maria Molchanova and Japanese Ayaka Miura in the space of three months.
After her recent victory over Miura this past February, the American athlete shared her desire to compete for the 26-pound belt.
And now she has a dance partner for what could be her career defining moment at ONE Fight Night 14 in Singapore.
Still, Khan will be confident in her tank when she turns it up again against Daniel Kelly.
The 21-year-old claimed the 2023 IBJJF Gi World title in the lightweight featherweight division last June and has reached the ONE World stage with a string of wins.
On September 29, the number one player will see the gold medalist aim to go 2-0 against the atomic weight wrestling star.
In the main event of the evening, Stamp Fairtex will go toe-to-toe with Ham Seo Hee for the interim ONE MMA World Heavyweight Championship title.
