India has expressed deep concern over the Ukraine conflict at the United Nations, urging a cessation of hostilities and diplomacy. Concerns are growing with Russia suspending the UN grain deal
India once again expressed its deep concern over the conflict in Ukraine and urged an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Annual Debate on Ukraine, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN expressed India’s position, saying that no solution can ever be reached at the cost of human lives and that the escalation of violence is in no one’s interest.
Emphasizing concern over reports of attacks on civilians and other infrastructure, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj once again echoed the famous words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, affirming that “This is not an era of war.” Actively participate in this discussion.
India remains concerned about the situation in Ukraine. Kamboj told the General Assembly that the conflict had resulted in loss of life and misery for its people, particularly women, children and the elderly, with millions left homeless and forced to take refuge in neighboring countries.

This debate over Ukraine came on the heels of Russia’s exit from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, also known as the UN grain deal. Russia on Monday suspended the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which has affected the flow of grain from Ukraine to regions in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
The move exacerbated concerns about hunger and high food prices in those areas. The Black Sea Grain Initiative, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey, has played a vital role in facilitating the transportation of food from Ukraine to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Her suspension came as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which exacerbated the global food crisis.

On the UN grain deal, Ambassador Kamboj said India was concerned about recent developments in the region which had not helped secure the larger cause of peace and stability. She added, “I will add here that India has supported the efforts of the UN Secretary-General in continuing the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and hopes for an early resolution to the current impasse.”
Kamboj said the world order upheld by the international community is based on international law, the United Nations Charter and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all countries. “These principles must be adhered to without exception,” she said.
“Dialogue is the only solution for resolving disputes and disagreements, no matter how daunting it may seem at this moment. The path to peace requires us to keep all channels of diplomacy open.”
Regarding the current course of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the Indian envoy told the UN General Assembly that it is also unfortunate that with the development of the course of the Ukrainian conflict, the entire global south has suffered great collateral damage. “It is therefore important that the voice of the global South be heard, and their legitimate concerns duly addressed,” she stressed.
