Nearly 100 delegates from G20 member countries, special invitees and several international organizations are taking part in the fourth meeting of the Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG), which kicked off in Goa on Wednesday.
An official said there are six priority areas identified under India’s G20 presidency, reflecting India’s focus on various aspects of the energy transition and building global cooperation towards clean and sustainable energy development.
The two-day meeting, chaired by Pankaj Agarwal, Chairman of the ETWG and Secretary to the Union Ministry of Energy, is being held at a hotel near Panaji, the capital of Goa.
The official said that Minister for New and Renewable Energy Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary of the Ministry of Mines Vivek Bharadwaj and Secretary of the Ministry of Coal Amrit Lal Meena were taking part in the deliberations.
Priority areas for discussions include energy transitions by addressing technology gaps, low-cost financing for energy transitions, energy security and diversified supply chains, energy efficiency, low-carbon industrial transitions and responsible consumption, fuels for the future, universal access to clean energy, and fair and affordable energy transition pathways. The cost is inclusive.
The official said discussions at the fourth ETWG meeting in Goa will continue to build on the first three meetings held in Bengaluru, Gandhinagar and Mumbai, to identify and promote best practices, policies and innovative approaches that support a just and inclusive energy transition.
The official added that the highlight of the fourth ETWG meeting will be the detailed discussions on the draft ministerial statement, which is currently under discussion and will be confirmed further.
