The dangers of not wearing a helmet now shake the next generation.
Rajavi from Tiruvarur district in Tamil Nadu gave half a liter of petrol to 20 motorists wearing helmets.
Wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler is perhaps the oldest safety rule in the book. Many road safety directives and instructions issued by the police have promoted the use of two-wheeled helmets. Despite the constant awareness of the rules of the road, many people do not respect the traffic rules and follow them properly.
In India, deaths due to not wearing helmets have gone up on two wheels. According to a report, more than 39,500 road accident deaths across India in 2020 were due to non-helmet use. Maharashtra alone contributed to 12% of these deaths.
The perils of not wearing a helmet have rocked the next generation as well, and some of them have taken on the burden of sharing awareness about it themselves. Rajavi from Tiruvarur district in Tamil Nadu is one of them. The little girl, who is in Class 10, is handing out free petrol to riders wearing helmets.
Chakrapani and Pushpa from Adichapuram district under Kotur union in Tiruvarur district have two children named Vijay and Raghavi. Rajavi, a student at St. Anthony’s State High School, learned about the dangers of riding without a helmet at school and noticed that people weren’t following the rules. Therefore, she came up with an initiative.
Rajavi has used all the money she has collected in her share of the house and it is part of her pocket money. She bought a bottle of petrol with them and gave half a liter of petrol to 20 motorists wearing helmets on the road from Mannargudi to Thiruthuraapoondi through Adichhapuram district. She also explained the importance of helmets for passers-by as well.
It is noteworthy that Vijay and Rajavi distributed 100 yellow bags free of charge to the public from the small amount they collected earlier to spread awareness about the dangers of using plastic products.
