Karnataka Lokayuka Police has detained Dr. Ramachandra, a gynecologist at Yelahanka Government General Hospital, after he demanded a bribe of 11,000 rupees to conceive a child.

Lokayukta Police also helped the victim recover money from the doctor after the accident occurred on Saturday. Lingappa and his wife Manjula, who was due to undergo a caesarean section, arrived at the government hospital on 15 July.

According to Lokayukta Police, Waheed, the founder working under contract, accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000, on behalf of a gynecologist. Initially, the doctor asked for a bribe of 15,000 rupees, but after negotiation, the amount was reduced to 11,000 rupees and Lingappa finally paid 10,000 rupees.

However, Lingappa Mounesh’s friend alerted the Lokayukta office after which DSP Pradeep Kumar rushed to the site. Munish led the police to Wadhid who admitted that he had accepted the bribe on behalf of Dr. Ramachandra.

Officials said the doctor was now being held by Lokaikta and a case was being registered against him.

While speaking to The Indian Express, Kumar said, “The doctor wasn’t even present at the hospital when the delivery was taking place. The delivery was made by a PG student on behalf of the doctor. We got the money back from the houseboat and brought it back to Lingappa. The couple comes from an economically vulnerable background.” .

Police said the birth was successful and the mother and baby are healthy and safe.
