Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced the investigation of the Criminal Investigation Department into the brutal murder of a Jain monk in Pelagavi district earlier this month.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and a section of the Jain community demanded an investigation into the CBI.
“Since the case is sensitive and following public requests, the investigation of this case will be transferred to the CID,” Siddaramaiah said in a statement in the Legislative Assembly, publishing details of the incident and the investigation so far.
Jain monk Kamkumar Nandi Maharaj of Nandi Parvat Ashram in Hirekodi village of Chikodi taluk was allegedly killed and his dead body thrown into a well-pit in Khatakbhavi village of Raibagh taluk.
Police have arrested Narayana Basaba Madi and Hasan Dalaith in connection with the case.
