American wrestler Tammy Musumesi has two ONE Championship matches under her belt but admits she’s still getting used to the promotion’s bright lights.
The New Jersey native, older sister to world flyweight champion Miki Musumesi, picks up her second straight win at ONE Fight Night 12 on Prime Video on July 14 in Bangkok.
She defeated Ecuadorean American Amanda Elkin via unanimous decision in her outstanding 10-minute bout.
It was a follow-up to her first victory on ONE in March, where she was also a decision winner.
While she was happy with another victory, Tammy Musumesi said she could have done better had it not been for the pressure she still has to deal with on the big stage of the ONE Championship.
The 29-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt told the South China Morning Post after her win:
“So, I feel thankful that I was able to get to it when it was really tough. I definitely feel like I could have done better. I still used to guess the nerves of being in you know the cage or the loop.”
Check out the interview below:
Against familiar foe Amanda Elkin, whom she had already faced twice before they met on ONE, Tami Musumesi had to overcome early aggression from “Tubby”.
But she eventually found her feet and began to put steady pressure on her opponent with her powerful guard game and leg locks.
Amanda Alequin tried to finish the contest late in the match but had little success.
In the end, his hand was raised in victory.
With back-to-back wins, Musumeci, a full-time barrister, has kept her climb up the promotion, which she hopes will translate into a shot-down world title.
ONE Fight Night 12 reboot is available for free to Prime Video subscribers in North America.
