An official statement on Tuesday said the Universal Postal Union will set up a UPI to integrate the Unified Payment Interface with cross-border transfers using the global postal network.

UPU Director General Masahiko Mitoki, who is on a three-day visit to India for the inauguration of the UPU Regional Office, met Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishinaw here on Tuesday.

“During the interaction, the UPU Director General appreciated India’s expansion of physical post offices riding on the waves of digital infrastructure and called for similar models to be replicated in other countries. He also agreed to evaluate the UPI platform for its integration with cross-border money transfer through postal channels.

Vaishinau has been involved in transforming post offices into a digitally powered network, capable of delivering government services to the doorstep in remote areas, according to the statement.
