In a strange turn of events, Toronto Blue Jays head coach Pete Walker was ejected from the game during a mound visit. Getting a coach fired from an MLB game is certainly nothing new, but the way this game has played out certainly has been. Walker was speaking directly with pitcher Alec Manoah and his teammates. Apparently nothing was directed at the verdict.
The referees in these games have full power to remove any player or any coach during the game. This is certainly among the most bizarre, and is already leading to speculation about what Walker was saying. Given that this is Manoah’s second start after struggling earlier this season, firing his coach won’t be easy.

We’ve seen just about every type of package this season, but this one might take the weirdest cake. Walker does his thing there, and the referee ejects him. The referee must be confident that this is a defensible decision, otherwise he would not dare risk it.

The Blue Jays have a tough enough opponent in the San Diego Padres, that they didn’t need to lose one of their coaches. Until we get more answers about what exactly Walker said, this remains an inexplicable parcel. Juan Soto and the rest of the Padres offense can eliminate shooters’ weaknesses faster now.
It is also a warning to both teams that this series will be closely monitored by the responsible staff. It will be fascinating to see how this dismissal affects the rest of the series.
