Young was born on September 19, 1998 to Candice Dawn and Rayford Young in Lubbock, Texas.

Rayford played college basketball for Texas Tech for four years. Standing at 5-foot-11, Young did well in college. In his senior year, he led the team in scoring with 17.8 points per game and showed his defensive prowess, getting 1.8 steals a game.

Candace met Rayford in high school, and they followed each other at Texas Tech. While studying in college, the couple welcome Trae to the world. Candace is known to be a devout Christian as she was raised as the daughter of a pastor and passed on her faith to her children.

She insists on having her children attend church and even talked about it before Young’s enlistment. In an interview with ESPN, she talked about encouraging her children to attend church.

“It’s very important to me,” said Candice Young. “If you’re home, you wake up. It’s not an option. I feel like that’s the foundation they get at the start of the week. It just starts right.”

During the time Tra learned about Kobe Bryant’s death, Candace was there to comfort her son.

Trae Young is known as the villain of the league for his outstanding postseason performances against the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics. During an interview with Draymond Green, who also adopted the role of a villain, Young said that it is not easy to become a villain in front of an audience.

“It’s really no fun being evil.” Young said. “I don’t get sucked into it. I feed on the crowd.”

“If you were listening to the game, 10 minutes left in the first quarter of Game 1, the entire arena was screaming, ‘F*** Trae Young! “What do you want me to do? Like, I’m just huffing, I’m just playing, I didn’t say anything to the crowd, I didn’t bow, I’m not saying, ‘It’s quiet as f*** in here.'” I haven’t said anything yet.

“I go out playing, I try to win, I try to put on a show. If the fans want to get in on it… I just feed the fans.”
