Matthew Jordan of England started the 2023 Open with a birdie on the second hole of the first round. The first group started its game on the 459-yard par-4 hole.
The Open Championship has a stellar course of 156 golfers. However, none of them had as much playing experience at Hoylake Stadium as Jordan. He took the shot early in the morning at Royal Liverpool FC based on his previous experience.
The Open Championship posted a video of local favorite Matthew Jordan Incredible shot from Royal Liverpool’s second hole with caption:
“Matthew Jordan has hit that shot a thousand times. But the world has never watched. The 151st Open is on.”
Fans hopped into the comments section to say:

The 151st Open will continue through the week, concluding on Sunday, July 23rd.
Which is Matthew Jordan?
Matthew Jordan was born on January 18, 1996, in Wirral, Peninsula, England. However, he was raised in West Kirby and currently lives in Hoylakes. He has been a member of Royal Liverpool for over two decades now. The golfer joined the club at the age of seven.
He qualified for the 151st Open Championship through the final qualifying round held in West Lancashire a few weeks ago.
Jordan talked about his desire to compete in the Major, especially in his hometown, before the event kicked off. He said via The Open:
“It’s such an honor. I’m sure the first tee, no matter what, would have been special, but obviously that was as a kid growing up, I used to get up really early, 6:30, and that was my open start. I have fond memories so having that honor is great.”
Matthew Jordan also mentioned his experience of seeing Tiger Woods play for Royal Liverpool and win The Open Championship in 2006. He went on to say:
“I remember seeing Tiger (Woods) in 2006 on the golf course, and I couldn’t get close to him. I think I actually saw him when he was here in 2014 as well, and I still couldn’t get close to him at that time.”
Jordan added: “He walked across the club on Sunday trying to score and I just froze. Then again, like I said, in 2006 he was on the putting green and I don’t think I moved for 20 minutes. He was my hero, and it was my ability to see him in the flesh and watch him do his thing.” , especially around your home run, is massive.”
It is worth noting that the Royal Liverpool FC has previously hosted the Open Championship 12 times.
