Dera head Sacha Saud Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is currently imprisoned in Sonariya Jail in Rohtak district of Haryana state, was granted 30 days conditional release on Thursday for the second time this year. He will be serving his parole at Dera in Barnava in Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh state.

Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two schoolgirls in an ashram and a life sentence for killing a journalist. The last time he was granted parole was in January of this year when he was out for 40 days.

Ram Rahim will have to abide by 10 conditions during his stay outside prison. He will not be allowed to visit any location not specified in the release warrant “without prior permission from the county judge” during his parole period.

At the time of his release on regular parole, he will have to provide details to the relevant district judge of where he intends to reside during the period and inform the district judge of any subsequent changes of residence during the period of parole.

Once his parole period expires, Ram Rahim will have to “return himself to the supervisory prison from which he was released to serve out the remainder of his sentence.”

“Prisoner before being released on regular parole shall make, to the satisfaction of the local magistrate concerned, a personal bond and two sureties of Rs.

The terms include pledge and surety clauses and Ram Rahim’s mandate to “maintain peace and maintain good behaviour” during his parole period and to “cooperate with the police and local administration…”.

“The person in charge of the respective police station shall closely monitor the conduct and activities of the convicted prisoner during provisional release and report in this regard to the prison warden through the Deputy Commissioner of Police or Superintendent of Police as soon as possible,” the release order states.
