Former Red Bull and Formula E driver Dan Ticktum has spoken out about his agreement with team advisor Helmut Marko’s decision to remove Nyck de Vries from the Alphaturre programme. De Vries was recently sacked by the Italian team, and Daniel Ricciardo is back on the net.

Speaking to Total-Motorsport.com, Ticktum spoke about the Red Bull consultant’s harshness and how he understands it. Ticktum went on to explain how big the Austro-British team was and how someone as big as Dr. Marco was needed in such a company.

“I haven’t seen many decisions like that from Helmut in a short while, so I thought maybe he’s soft in his old age! But he definitely still gets it. He still has the toughness. I get it on his part. A team and a company as big as Red Bull “They can’t afford to wait for someone to perform up to speed. They need someone to perform right away,” he said.

Furthermore, Ticktum understands that the 2023 AlphaTauri F1 car was not the easiest to drive. However, he stated that he still agreed with most of Helmut Marko’s decisions.

Ticktum added: “Unfortunately, I think the AlphaTauri was clearly a difficult car to drive, and Nyck struggled a bit, so I understand why he was fired, albeit roughly.

Dan Taktum wasn’t shy about mentioning how a Red Bull consultant himself brought him down. Despite this, he realizes that Dr. Marco doesn’t have time to go into detail as to why the driver is not performing.

“I probably have bad blood with him about the way I got eliminated, but I think in general, he doesn’t have time to go into detail because he’s so busy. If the results aren’t there for whatever reason, they just go, ‘Okay, we’ll get on another driver. There are a lot of other good drivers out there. ‘He doesn’t care much about detail, so I’m kind of being blunt,'” Ticktum concluded.

Helmut Marko’s assessment of Nick de Vries and why he was fired from AlphaTauri

After Nyck de Vries was removed from the AlphaTauri seat, Red Bull chief executive Helmut Marko gave his reasons for making such a harsh decision.

As I mentioned The telegraphDr. Marco stated that de Vries was unable to match his teammate Yuki Tsunoda and showed no improvement over the course of half a season.

“We were expecting De Vries to equal Tsunoda, but we didn’t see any improvement. We had to do something. Why should we wait and what does two more races matter if you don’t see any improvement? Nyck is a very nice guy, but the pace just wasn’t there,” Marko said.

Daniel Ricardowho replaced de Vries after coming to AlphaTauri on loan, will make his first race start after leaving F1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
