Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar will make his Test debut for India after all-rounder Shardul Thakur was ruled out of the second Test against West Indies with a thigh injury.

“Shardol has caused an inconvenience – a groin problem, he’s bringing Mukesh into debut. He’s worked hard in domestic cricket,” said India’s captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday’s match.

Kumar played 39 first-class matches and took 149 wickets at an average of 21.55. He also made his debut in the Indian Premier League in 2023 with Delhi Capitals and has 7 scalps to his name in 10 matches.

“There are a lot of memories, the rivalry between the two teams is always exciting to watch. It’s always been a tough tour, you have to work hard. Even in the last match, we had to work hard, especially the batsmen. Hopefully we can get the result we expect.”

In the match, the West Indies won the toss and elected to play against India. Kirk McKenzie will make his debut for the West Indies, replacing Raymond River.

India lead 1-0 after winning the first Test in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs.
