On Wednesday evening, the Revenue Investigation Department seized about 100 kilograms of gold undetected through the customs of Tribhuvan International Airport.

According to director and spokesperson of APF Rajendra Khadka, the police have arrested Rajendra Rai, the taxi driver, Ram Kumar Bhujel, Dilip Bhujel, Harka Raj Rai and Indian national Thapten Tsering.
Later in the evening, the police also arrested a Chinese national, Lengchuan, in connection with the case.
According to the SSP, a large quantity of gold was confiscated by a team of security personnel which was transported in a taxi after passing through the airport towards the metropolitan city of Kathmandu.
“The confiscated metal will be transferred to Nepal Rastra Bank soon for exact weighing which will be carried out under the supervision of Inland Revenue Department officials,” Khadka told PTI by phone on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the customs department is preparing to suspend personnel involved in checking and clearing such a large amount of gold from the customs office of Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday.
According to APS sources, the owner of the gold is still unknown. The SSP said further investigations are underway into the matter.
