While he’s had plenty of success in his mixed martial arts journey under the ONE Championship so far, Brazilian Marcos ‘Buchecha’ Almeida admits he still has a long way to go in the sport.

The BJJ legend debuted in ONE MMA in September 2021 and has been undefeated in four fights so far. More tellingly, his victories all came as finishes in the opening round.

His latest victory came in August last year over Belarusian Kirill Grishchenko by hooking up a heel in just 64 seconds.

talking on Money Moicano PodcastBuchecha said there is still a lot of work to be done to get to the level he wants to be in MMA, saying:

“It’s one step at a time. So I’m having my fifth fight, I know it’s a long way to go, I need to get my experience, so you see me training every day in the gym, training hard, getting beaten up, every single day against more experienced fighters. So it’s a long way to go, but I’m in no rush.”

‘Buchecha”s MMA campaign resumes August 4 at ONE Fight Night 13 on Prime Video in Bangkok.

He will face Senegalese Oumar Kane in the heavyweight MMA match, part of a nine match show happening at the Lumpini Boxing Stadium.

Buchecha is hoping to maintain its upward trajectory to stay on track for a possible shot at the world title, which is currently owned by two-time world champion Anatoly Malykhin of Russia.

Omar Kane is looking to stem the victories of America’s best team, which has won back-to-back games.

“Reug Reug” was his last match in December in Manila, where he won by unanimous decision over Jasur Mirzamkhamedov of Uzbekistan.

ONE Fight Night 13 is available live and free to Prime Video subscribers in North America.
