One of the brightest players in the field of table tennis in India, Sreeja Akula has become a household name after dreaming of running in the recent past. With gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the South Asian Games, Srija is set to become India’s next star.

Currently plying her trades in the Dabang Delhi TTC at IndianOil Ultimate Table Tennis 2023, Sreeja has done quite well so far, having taken down some top opponents including the likes of Manika Batra.

Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda, Sreeja Akula opened up about her experience in her debut season as well as her secret to always staying calm on the field.

From being a non-playing member in 2018 to leading the women’s offense at Dabang Delhi TTC, she has definitely come a long way. She promised that she would give her best for the team.

“I played in 2018 and I wasn’t playing,” Srija said. “Now I’m in the senior category and I’m very happy to be with Dabang Delhi. I think everyone was really looking forward to UTT. Overall, I was very excited and we’ll all try to give our best for our team.”

The 24-year-old has spoken about how making the UTT team allows her to train against some of the biggest names in table tennis both locally and internationally.

“It’s a very unique experience,” she continued. “In the same team, we have men and women, foreigners and Indians. Our most experienced ones are Satyan Bhaiya, John Pearson and Barpura too. So we will learn a lot from them because we are in the same team. We will play with them. Overall it is a good experience.”


“I will do everything for my team” – Sreeja Akula is UTT’s ideal team player

Srija Akola is known to be one of the calmest and kindest table tennis clients and one may not remember the last time she expressed anger or disappointment in the middle. She reveals that although this is her personality, she is also training to improve her mental strength.

“It is natural for me to always remain calm,” Srija added. “Not only on the pitch, off the pitch I’m also calm and calm. There’s nothing special about it but I also train my mind to stay focused and stay in the present moment. I think that’s the most important thing. Since childhood, I’m really calm but now I work a lot on staying focused and focused.”

Being part of the 2023 Asian Games squad, Srija Akola will be facing her doubles and mixed doubles partners Diya Chitale and Harmeet Desai in UTT. She revealed that the experience will be unique but at UTT, she will give everything to her own team.

“I’m playing with my team now so I’ll do my best for the team. Everything that happens here is for UTT. After UTT it’s different. It will be different than playing against my partner but it will be a good experience. I will do everything for my team.”

Dabang Delhi TTC has won one match in their two matches so far. Srija Akula was the star performer for them, winning both of their women’s singles matches. Dabangg Delhi TTC is getting ready to play against host team Bunyere Paltan next.
