Nilgiri Road Station Master Subas Sethi and Sheikh Muhammad Khalil have been suspended by the Kharagpur division of South Eastern Railways for negligence and dereliction of duty

Officials said Thursday that a stationmaster and a point officer of the South Eastern Railways have been suspended after a MEMU train miraculously escaped an accident near Nilgiri Road station at Balasore in Odisha.

At Nilgiri Road station, in Balasore-Bhadrak division, a maintenance block was carried out from 11:05 am to 12:25 pm on 18th July. During this period, train movements were made on paper on paper, according to an official statement.

The train has entered a loop line track which is undergoing maintenance. The local alert conductor of Train No. 08032 (BHC-BLS MEMU) noticed an error at the track’s end point and immediately applied the emergency brake at approximately 12:07 p.m., preventing any mishap. At that time, the train was moving at a very slow speed of about 8 kilometers per hour.

Sources told CNN-News18 that there was some confusion, possibly related to the trailing point closing, which caused the train to stop. The train was then moved in the opposite direction towards Balasore and then continued its journey.

The statement added that the point was checked jointly by the pilot and the station crew, and after verification, the train left the station. Officials stated that there was no chance of a derailment or any other type of accident.

Nilgiri Road stationmaster Subas Sethi and Sheikh Muhammad Khalil have been suspended by the Kharagpur Railway South East Division for negligence and dereliction of duty.

The accident occurred months after 293 people were killed and more than 1,200 injured when the Coromandel Express collided with a stationary freight train at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district and some of its derailed buses collided with the Yeshwantpur-Howrah Express on June 2.
