Sunny Leone, who was born Karenjit Kaur Vohra to an Indian Sikh family living in Canada, changed her name to sunny Leone Having started working in the adult entertainment industry in the early 2000s. She moved to India about a decade later, and established herself as an actress after appearing on the reality show Bigg Boss. She was offered a movie role while still in Bigg Boss house in 2011, and this marked the beginning of her journey in Bollywood.
But Sunny revealed in a recent interview how she got her stage name.
“I was in the States doing an interview for a magazine and they said to me, ‘What do you want your name to be?'” “I couldn’t think of anything at that moment. I worked for a tax and retirement firm and worked in HR, accounting, and another agent. I helped with all those things, and then I was also a receptionist,” Sunny shared during his midday Sit With Hitlist series.
She went on to add, “So, I was doing the interview at this place and I knew I had to get off the phone soon and get back to work, because I was going to get arrested. And they were like ‘What do you want your name to be’ and I said, ‘Use Sunny as my first name, and then you can choose last name”.
The actor shared, “Sunny is my brother’s surname. His name is Sandeep Singh, we call him Sunny. My mom hated that I called myself Sunny. She said, ‘Out of all the names, this is the one you’d pick?’
Sunny shared that her second name “Leon” was given by the Italian owner of the magazine she interviewed. She added, “I was only 19 years old, and I became acquainted with the second name after it was published.”
