The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is looking into major international expansions, particularly in the GCC and sub-Saharan countries along with the South Asian region.
While the GCC countries are keen on having a university campus, the institute is currently talking to various governments for academic cooperation.
On Wednesday, the institute announced the launch of the National Education Policy (NEP) – a Skills Education Program aligned with the Innovative Teacher Education Program for the 2023-24 academic year.
While making future plans in line with the NEP, the institute’s authorities spoke of the need for a global approach.
Noting that satellite campuses or academic collaborations are among some of the options available to the institute for its plans for globalization, Professor Shalini Bharat, Director and Vice-Chancellor of TISS, said, “We have already linked up with many universities abroad to offer dual degree programmes. One such example is Monash University From Sydney in Australia and Queen Mary University from London We are also exploring other options for having programs in partnerships with our ecosystem, along with possibilities if we can get something in other countries.”
“But rather than duplicating existing programmes, we are looking to offer unique programmes,” added Professor Bharat.
Elaborating on the expansion plans, Professor Benno Paul, Vice-Chancellor at TISS, said: “We are looking forward to academic cooperation with the GCC and sub-Saharan countries. The GCC countries have shown interest in opening a campus. But those plans are still in the process. Emergence. We are currently focused on offering young academic programs in these areas.”
The institute has also started work on developing academic programs in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.
Professor Paul shared that the institute envisages meeting the local needs of the respective countries through such cooperation.
