India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur had to correct the lead in post-match discussion to refer to her as “Jemimah” (Rodriguez) after the team beat Bangladesh for 108 runs in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Ground in Dhaka on Wednesday, July 19.
India put in a clinical performance in the second ODI to tie the three match series 1-1. Sent to bat after losing the toss, The Women in Blue put on 228/8 in 50 overs as Rodrigues top-scored with 86 from 78, while Harmanpreet contributed 52 from 88 balls. Rodriguez also claimed 4/3 with the ball as Bangladesh totaled 120 at 35.1.
While India’s dominance in the game made headlines, a video from the post-match presentation is now circulating on social media in which the presenter refers to Harmanpreet as Jemimah and gets corrected by the Indian captain.
In the clip which is from the end of the conversation between the Indian captain and the steward, the latter is heard saying:
“Thank you very much Jemima. Congratulations.”
The Indian cricketer quickly corrects him and replies:
“Harmanpreet Kaur, thank you.”
Harmanbriet retired upset during her innings but later returned to complete a hard fought half-century.
While Harmanpreet played an important role in India’s victory in the second ODI, Jemimah was undoubtedly the standout performer. With her all-around effort, she became the first Indian female cricketer to score a fifty and claim four wickets in the same ODI.
After choosing the best player in the must-win match, Jemaima said:
“One thing we’ve talked about is how do we get over a loss quickly because we still have two more games to win the series. We can still come back. And I think I liked what Nooshin di (head coach) said to us that you know a champion team is not a team that never fails or never loses or never loses, a champion team is a team that steps back and comes out of that and comes back.
“So that’s been the key talk and that’s what our team showed. And I think that would give us more confidence from falling down than being criticized and from a low place to come back, you know, prove once again what team India is. I think that will give our team a lot of confidence.” to move forward.”
The third decides the ODI out series It will take place in Dhaka on Saturday 22nd July.
