In fact, at one point in time, Mithun was called “poor man Amitabh Bachchan” and when asked about this in an interview, the Disco Dancer actor said that he found her the “greatest compliment” he could ever receive.
In a conversation with ETC, Mithun said that Amitabh Bachchan is the “biggest star of the century” and recalled the time when people compared him to Amitabh Bachchan. He shared, “At that time, Saab Bachchan was making big films. And I don’t have a banner. But my films will almost achieve that goal. People will say he’s also Amitabh Bachchan, but he’s a poor man.”
Mithun explained that in terms of business, since Amitabh would act in big budget films and Mithun worked in smaller budget films, the rebound these two films would have at the box office was almost the same. “At one time they used to say they were two pillars of the industry. I think that was the greatest compliment I could ever get.”
When Mithun was still a rookie, Amitabh once offered him a lift when he saw the actor traveling in the beat of a production. Mithun’s son Namachi previously shared with Etimes that while shooting Tarana in Shimla, he saw Amitabh Mithun traveling with the crew and gently pulled over his car and asked him to ride with him. Namachi said the two have been friends for over 45 years.
