Lionel Messi recently completed his transfer to Inter Miami, which is owned by Jorge Mas and David Beckham.
The Argentine is expected to help MLS gain more fans from all over the world. With the United States set to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with Canada and Mexico, the arrival of Lionel Messi could be a huge boost for sport in the country.
Jorge Mas and David Beckham put a lot of effort into bringing Messi to Inter Miami and helping the club and the MLS league. While Beckham is a global superstar, Mass is somewhat of an unknown. So let’s take a look at the history of the American billionaire.
Jorge Mas was born in Miami, Florida. He is the son of Jorge Mas Canosa, a Cuban immigrant, who was the leader of the movement that overthrew Fidel Castro.
Kanusa founded MasTec, a construction and engineering company. Jorge Mas is the current chairman of the company, which is worth $9.1 billion, while his brother is CEO.
He also founded a company called Neff Corporation in 1990, which sold for $510 million in 2005. Maas has also been a part of many other teams and boards of directors in the past.
He tried but failed to buy the Miami Marlins before he and his brother eventually bought out the co-owners of Inter Miami. They, along with David Beckham, now own the club.
Jorge Mas on Lionel Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami
The arrival of Lionel Messi is expected to be a huge boost for MLS. It is expected to bring in a huge international audience, which in turn will help gain more viewership for Apple TV.
Apple TV has signed a 10-year partnership with MLS, broadcasting the league worldwide. The Argentine will receive a share of the increase in international subscription sales on Apple TV (via the athlete).
While Messi’s arrival is expected to bring revenue and prominence in the future, Jorge Mas believes they have already “succeeded”. Tell the athlete:
“We succeeded (already). Expectations are another thing, but we succeeded. The fact that Lionel Messi is here, that Sergio Busquets is here and others will come, that we open new chapters for sport in this country, we have succeeded.”
Messi is considered by many to be the greatest soccer player of all time. He now joins the likes of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Steven Gerrard, who previously moved to the NBA.
The Argentine will make his Inter Miami debut against Cruz Azul in the League Cup on July 21.
