Waterborne diseases are spread as a result of consuming contaminated water, ice, or food
The Delhi government has warned that there is an increased risk of contracting waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentery and cholera in the rainy season, and has issued advice indicating do’s and don’ts.
The city health department’s advice was published in several leading dailies on Friday.
It mentions the advice to dos and should not be followed given the monsoon season.
Waterborne diseases are spread as a result of consuming contaminated water, ice, or food.
The guidance asked people to eat fresh food cooked at home, maintain good personal hygiene, use oral rehydration salts solutions to prevent dehydration, and visit a health facility if vomiting, jaundice, or fever is present.
It also asked people not to eat uncooked roadside food, such as pieces of fruit. The instruction also tells them not to urinate or defecate in the open.
The authorities also warned earlier that in the aftermath of the recent floods in parts of Delhi, there was a risk of spreading waterborne and vectorborne diseases.
