Besides birth records for males and females, Bhairwa said, birth records for transgender people will now be available on the company’s portal.
In a first of its kind, the Greater Jaipur Municipal Authority has issued a birth certificate to a transgender, officials said on Friday.
They added that Bhanwarlal Birwa, Director, Department of Economics and Statistics and Chief Registrar (Births and Deaths), issued the first transgender birth certificate in Rajasthan to Noor Shekhawat of Jaipur on Wednesday.
Besides birth records for males and females, Bhairwa said, birth records for transgender people will now be available on the company’s portal.
Bhairwa said an awareness program will also be launched to encourage transgender people to apply for their birth certificates.
He added that Shekhawat’s gender was recorded as “male” at the time of birth.
Shekhawat, who passed Grade 12 from an English medium school and runs a volunteer organization for the transgender community, said the initiative will help the government maintain records of transgender people alongside records of people with disabilities, both men and women.
Shekhawat now plans to urge the authorities to provide job opportunities for the transgender community and book jobs.
