Faizan Ansari, the 19-year-old from Jharkhand who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday for his alleged links to the Islamic State (ISIS or ISIS), is highly extremist and formed a group of 10 to carry out a major attack in India, according to agency sources.
Al-Ansari was in contact with ISIS operatives in Syria, Afghanistan and African countries. He has been under ISIS training for the past four years and has been residing outside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Ansari wanted to mark targets in India, especially in important places, to show his loyalty to the Islamic State. The sources said that he had paid his money to ISIS recently, adding, “He has deep connection with various individuals in India and he used to hold meetings related to ISIS.”
He was planning violent actions and was also considering making a “hijra” (transformation) into the theater of ISIS struggle abroad. The sources said that documents related to making explosives were found from his possession and he may have wanted to make explosive devices.

The NIA conducted searches at his home in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand and a rented room in Aligarh on 16 and 17 July. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to the initial plan obtained by the agencies, they wanted to implement “major incidents only”.
