The video surfaced online on July 19 after an internet ban was lifted in the northeastern state, sparking nationwide outrage.

Manipur Police said Friday that the four accused, who were arrested in connection with a viral video of two women parading topless in the violence-hit state, have been sent to police custody for 11 days.

The incident seen in the 26-second video clip took place in the village of Manipur on May 4, a day after violence broke out in the state against Meiteis’ claim for ST status.

The video surfaced online on July 19 after an internet ban was lifted in the northeastern state, sparking nationwide outrage. Four people have been arrested in connection with Thursday’s incident.

More than 160 people have been killed and many others injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on 3 May.
