Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday appealed to the judiciary to take a stand against the alleged violation of people’s basic rights and victimization of members of the country’s largest political party after a prominent leader of his party was thrown out of a maximum security prison by “unknown men”.
On Twitter, Khan, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, said, “Shehrar Afridi (senior leader of the PTM) was thrown out of Adiala jail, the day before yesterday by unknown men (referring to intelligence agencies) who are not completely legal and shows the utter chaos in the country.” “I urge our judiciary to take a stand and stop this complete violation of our basic rights and flagrant abuse of members of Pakistan’s largest political party,” Khan wrote on Twitter.
The removal of Shahrar Afridi from Adiala Jail yesterday by unknown men is completely illegal and shows the utter chaos and arrogance of the country.

Afridi, 52, served as Minister of State for Home Affairs from August 2018 to April 2019.
Khan also sees the resurgence of the “cipher controversy” (in which he accused the US of bringing down his government) as an attempt to disqualify him from contesting the next general election.
On Thursday, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan warned he could be arrested if he did not cooperate with the investigation into the leaking of national secrets in what has become widely known as the “crypto case”. As Shahryar’s lawyer explained, the sole purpose of subjecting him to this torture and persecution was to force him to register a 164 CrPc statement against him (Khan), said the 70-year-old cricketer-turned-politician.
Khan is reportedly under “virtual house arrest” and no PTI commander or worker is allowed to see him at his residence in Zaman Park in Lahore.
Khan also criticized the government over the arrest of more than 10,000 PTI workers following the attack on military installations and government buildings in response to his corruption-related arrest on 9 May. He said there is a law of the jungle in the country whereby his party leaders are re-arrested in fake cases after securing bail from the courts. “The silence of human rights organizations and our journalistic community is appalling…,” Khan tweeted.
Addressing the nation via YouTube on Thursday night, Khan once again accused Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari and former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa of plotting to oust him as prime minister in April 2022 through a motion of no confidence. “The coalition government led by the PMLN and its handlers only have one point agenda – they excluded me and sent me to jail. To carry out their plan, they have now offered the case of American encryption,” he said, demanding a detailed investigation into the American “crypto conspiracy” because the FBI is not competent enough to conduct the investigation. “The nation should know about the real players behind the conspiracy,” Khan said.
Khan was removed from office by a vote of no confidence, becoming the first prime minister in Pakistan’s history to be sent home after losing the confidence of the National Assembly.
Khan has repeatedly alleged that the US hatched a plan to remove him from his position due to visiting Russia and meeting President Vladimir Putin. He also waved the cipher (diplomatic telegram) at a public gathering to support his claims. The US has repeatedly denied Khan’s allegations, calling them “categorically false”. Imran Khan traveled to Moscow in February last year and met President Putin on the eve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
