In a freak accident, a three-year-old boy, Aditya Thorat, sustained injuries after a ceiling fan fell on him at Anganwadi in Pune’s Junnar tehsil district on July 6.
The boy’s father, Suresh Thorat, said he received the heartbreaking news shortly after he delivered his son to Anganwadi that morning. “The teacher took him to a clinic. I went there and saw Aditya badly injured, including a cut on his nose. Thorat said.
According to Jamsing Girase, Executive Vice President of Pune Zilla Parishad, Aditya received 10-12 stitches on his nose and 2-3 under his eye. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Suhas Campbell, who operated on the boy at Bhosari Sinath Hospital, said, “He had a broken nose and a wound. We did the surgery, and he is now stable.”
After the necessary procedures, Aditya is discharged from the hospital. Pune Zilla Parishad offered 50 percent subsidy on his treatment costs and compensation of 50,000 rupees for the injured child.
District Health Officer Dr. Ramchandra Hankari visited Advit’s house to express his regret over the accident, check on him and hand over the compensation.
Pune Zilla Parishad CEO Ayush Prasad said a high-level committee will investigate the incident and take action in accordance with laws against any negligence found. Another team will review all Zilla Parishad infrastructure to prevent such incidents.
“A child psychiatrist has been appointed for the boy’s well-being, and a doctor at the health center will monitor his recovery. We are grateful that the accident could not have been more serious,” Prasad said.
He added that Pune Zilla Parishad has invested heavily in improving the infrastructure of Anganwadi under the ‘Anganwadi Sushobhikaran Karyakaran’ programme.
