After crossing out parts of his Rajya Sabha speech, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien wrote to Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar demanding that his full speech be recorded as he had “properly questioned” the government on the situation in Manipur.

O’Brien, the party’s leader in the Rajya Sabha, wrote, “My point of order on July 20, 2023, was an attempt in my capacity as leader of one of the largest opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha, to question the Chief Minister and the government in power about the disturbing and disturbing situation of law and order in the state of Manipur.”

O’Brien cited rules in the Rajya Sabha to support his demand that all other acts in the House of Representatives be suspended for debate in Manipur. Citing words featured in a list of non-parliamentary words in the Lok Sabha last year, O’Brien said it was an attempt to silence dissent.
